Social action of school students of Ukraine «Citizen - 2009».
All-Ukrainian association of Teachers of History and Social Studies “Nova Doba” announces the start of Social action for school students of Ukraine «Citizen - 2009». The groups of the high-school students of Ukraine are invited to participate in actions to solve social problems in their local communities. The deadline of sending materials and applications is April 15, 2009. National final showcase of the best project of the social action of school students of Ukraine «Citizen» will be arranged on May, 2009 in Kyiv.

| Annual meting of “Nova Doba” Association.
On December 5, 2008 in the Kyiv House of Teachers the Annual meeting of the “Nova Doba” Association of teachers of history and social studies members was held. According to the Statute the new Chairman of the association was elected.
We congratulate Mykhailo Savchenko (Kyiv) being elected on this responsible position!

| “Nova Doba” Association Annual Conference.
On December 5, 2008 in the Kyiv House of Teachers the All-Ukrainian scientific conference was held on the theme: The possibilities of civic and historical education in formation of social responsible position of youth.
In the conference participated Pavlo Polyanskiy, Vice Minister of education and Science of Ukraine and Dirk Schuebel, the Head of Political, Press and Information Section of the Delegation of the European Commission to Ukraine.
In the framework of the conference the Round table session was held on the theme: «The role of school historical education in development of civil culture. The possibilities of implementation of the recommendations of the working committee on issues of monitoring of the textbooks in school practice».

| Social survey for high school students of Ukraine.
All-Ukrainian association of Teachers of History and Social Studies “Nova Doba” in partnership with the foundation «Democratic initiatives» in October-November 2008 held national survey on the formation of civiland social-political position of youth in Ukraine. Survey was arrenged in 43 educational establishments in different regions of Ukraine. 1349 of high school graduates participated in the survey.
The results of the all-Ukrainian sociological research were presented on December 5, 2008, before the Ukrainian mass-media press-conference and participants of the scientific conference. During the presentation Iryna Bekeshkina (Foundation of Democratic initiatives), and Polina Verbytska, ²ryna Kostyuk, Sviatoslav Ratushniak, Valentina Potapova, Nataliya Skyrda, Oksana Kozhemiaka (“Nova Doba” Association) took speech.

All-Ukrainian association of Teachers of History and Social Studies “Nova Doba” presents the young team of trainers on civic education «NOVA DOBA - PERSPECTIVE»
The team members are communicative, creative and responsible persons. They present 15 regions of Ukraine. The young trainers – are the graduates from pedagogical universities, participants of two years’ educational program on civic education in the framework of the project «Youth-School-Community», realized under support of the European Commission. The team was co organizers of social action for school students of Ukraine «Citizen-2008»
«NOVA DOBA - PERSPECTIVE» holds interactive workshops for youth on such issues as:
Volunteering, Discrimination, Neighborhood, Euro-integration, Euroclubs, Critical Thinking, Communication, Conflicts, Leadership, Youth mass-media, Elections, Human Rights, Self-Government, Tolerance

Global Education Week 2008 edition
The tenth annual European Global Education Week (GEW) will take place from the 15th to the 23rd of November 2008, at the initiative of the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe. Global Education Week (also known in some countries as One World Week) supports teachers, youth leaders, young people and other formal and non-formal educational constituencies to engage in education for global citizenship; and enhances the effectiveness of this endeavour nationally and throughout Europe, through co-ordination of initiatives and sharing of best practices. | On September 25-27, 2008 in Foros, Crimea, Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, The Department of Education of the Council of Europe in the partnership with All-Ukrainian Association of Teachers of History and Social Studies “Nova Doba” held the international seminar on the theme: “New methods of teaching history in the multicultural society”
During the seminar the international experts arranged workshops on the use of interactive methods of teaching history.

| On September 5, 2008 in Kyiv House of Teachers (Volodymyrska str. 57) the final presentation and Awarding ceremony of the 6th All-Ukrainian competition of students research works “On the tracks of history” “Famine in Ukraine. 1932-1933”
In this event participated the winners of the competition – school students from different regions of Ukraine? teachers-consulters and invited guests – representatives of Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, National Academy of Sciences and other state and nongovernmental organizations of Ukraine, representatives of foreign embassies in Ukraine.

The awards were gained thanks to efforts of the International Organization of EUSTORY, the Security Service of Ukraine, the Institute of National Memory and Foundation “Ukraine 3000”.

| In September-October, 2008 All-Ukrainian Association of Teachers of History and Social Studies “Nova Doba” together with the Foundation of Democratic Initiatives held national survey on the level of formation of the civil and social-political position of youth of Ukraine.
The results of the survey will be presented on the Annual conference on December 5, 2008 in Kyiv House of Teachers

| On August 5-8, 2008 «Meeting memories» summer school for teachers of Ukraine in Mukachevo (Transcarpatian region) was held.
Since 2007 - All-Ukrainian Association of Teachers of History and Social Studies “Nova Doba” in partnership with the Institute of visual memory of Shoah foundation of South California University (USA) and in cooperation with the Ukrainian Center of Holocaust Studies under support of Viktor Pinchuk Foundation realises the project “Meeting memories” .
On August 5-8, 2008 in Mukachevo the Summer school for training the regional trainers for the project was organized.

| ²n July 2-6, 2008 in Mukachevo (Transcarpatian region) All-Ukrainian Association of Teachers of History and Social Studies “Nova Doba” in the partnership with the Center of Civic education in Warsaw (Poland) in the framework of the project “Youth – School - Community”, that is funded by the Delegation of the European Committee in Ukraine held the summer school for students of the pedagogical universities of Ukraine.
The peculiar feature of the summer school was that the participants of the project “Youth – School - Community" managed to organize both effective self-government and strong trainer team.
During the project students formed a very strong and skilled team from different pedagogical universities of Ukraine. Ó Students expressed the will to join together to structured youth organization to realize their youth initiatives.
Association “Nova Doba” supported the youth initiative because we consider it will give the opportunity to young teachers to activate the work with youth in the local community an school.

| On July 2-4, 2008 Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, The Department of Education of the Council of Europe in the partnership with All-Ukrainian Association of Teachers of History and Social Studies “Nova Doba” held in Mukachevo (Transcarpatian region) the international seminar on the theme “New approaches to multicultural and multireligional education”
The participants of the seminar were national and international scholars and teachers.

In 2008 All-Ukrainian Association of Teachers of History and Social Studies “Nova Doba” realized the project focused on development of the web of Euro clubs in Ukraine. On this purpose the series of educational seminars and trainings for the representatives of euro clubs were held. The electronic version of database of Euro clubs of Ukraine was created. There was published the manual of how to organize a Euro club at school and the best experience was presented in this brochure.
One of the most interesting parts of “Nova Doba” activities of the project was youth action of Euro clubs “Ukraine invites”. The action participants initiated concrete social activities in local communities, which resulted creation of the positive image of the community, region and the country in general information space.
The project lasted from February 15 to April 15, 2008. More than 150 interesting projects from Euro clubs of Ukraine were sent to the jury of the competition. They were: “My town – a small Paris”, “Lets open our city for Europe”, Our village on the map of Europe”, ‘Miracles of our region”, “Development of the bicycle traces”, creation of the information village centers for tourists, creation of web-sites, booklets about the towns and villages, ecological actions – this is the list of some projects for Euro clubs.
The winners of the action “Ukraine invites” became the Euro clubs of such educational establishments of Ukraine:

- School of Grodivka Donetsk region.
- School ¹2 of Zbarazh Ternopil region.
- School ¹17 of Cherkasy.

On May 16, 2008 in Kyiv the final showcase of Social action of school students of Ukraine “Citizen 2008” was held. The teams from different cities, towns and villages of Ukraine presented the results of their social activities.
It is important to emphasize that in 2008 the social action was initiated by the Pedagogical Universities of Ukraine students – the participants of the project “Youth – School - Community”. The interesting part of the showcase was the presentation of the best experiences of Euro clubs activities held in the framework of the action “Ukraine invites”.
In the final showcase of the action “Citizen - 2008” participated 50 the best youth teams from different regions of Ukraine and also invited guests – the representatives of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Delegation of the European Committee in Ukraine, other establishments, mass media, NGOs.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine - Yulia Tymoshenko addressed the letter to the participants of the action “Citizen - 2008”
